Shape & Size
The WLmouse Beast Miao is a very small, symmetrically-shaped mouse measuring 91 x 55 x 34 mm. Its most notable feature is its compact size, particularly in length, which caters specifically to fingertip-grip users. If you already own the Beast X Mini, you'll find the Beast Miao similar in front shape but with less front flare and flatter sides, resulting in a less aggressive curvature.
Due to its short length, the mouse is practically limited to fingertip grip usage; even users with very small hands will struggle with other grip styles. Its narrow width might also be challenging for users with exceptionally large hands. My hands are relatively large (20.5 x 10.5 cm), yet I still comfortably grip and use it for extended gaming and work sessions. However, I might have preferred it slightly wider. Nonetheless, most users will likely find its size ideal.
Coating & Grip-tape
The coating on the WLmouse Beast Miao matches WLmouse's other magnesium mice, such as the new Beast X Pro lineup, Beast X Max, Sword X and Strider. It has a dry, consistent feel, maintaining its texture even in changing temperature and humidity conditions. The grip provided by the coating is excellent, and I found no need for additional grip tape. The mouse includes two sets of grip tape for the main buttons and sides. These offer the typical additional grip common in modern tapes, providing extra grip and a slight increase in width if needed.
Build Quality
The Beast Miao's magnesium shell is outstanding in quality. Applying significant pressure does not cause flex or creaking in the sides or top shell. The only minor flex occurs on the plastic bottom, but this doesn't affect normal usage. Additionally, internal components do not rattle when shaking the mouse, an issue in some other mice.
Weight
Weighing just 31 grams, the WLmouse Beast Miao achieves its impressively low weight through its small dimensions, magnesium construction, and shell cutouts. Despite its extremely lightweight feel, quality remains top-tier. Its well-balanced weight distribution makes movement effortless, which is essential for fingertip mice.
Skates
The skates on the Beast Miao match those of other WLmouse models, feeling smooth out-of-the-box and improving further with use. It ships with four dot skates installed and includes additional skate options: 20 dot skates, 4 medium-sized corner skates, and two large skates for the front and back. I personally prefer using the four medium-sized corner skates.
Buttons & Scroll Wheel
When purchasing, you can choose between two switch types: Omron Optical or TTC Nihil Transparent Black Dot. Omron Opticals have lighter actuation, immunity to double-click issues due to their optical technology, and are excellent for rapid clicks. The TTC Nihil Transparent Black Dot switches are mechanical, have a higher actuation force, offer greater tactile feedback, and are specifically designed for magnesium mice. I generally recommend Omron Optical switches for most users due to their reliability, though buyers that prefer the most tactility may prefer the TTC Nihil option.
Sensor & Performance
The Beast Miao is equipped with the PixArt PAW3950 HS sensor, also found in models like the new Beast X Pro series, Beast X Max, Sword X, Strider and Ying. Like these other models, the Beast Miao supports up to 30,000 DPI and an 8000 Hz polling rate with its included dongle, eliminating the need for additional purchases. Performance-wise, the Beast Miao is flawless, matching other high-end WLmouse offerings and competing well against other top-tier mice featuring similar sensors.
